About Darryl Smith: Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Picture
Darryl is passionate about working with people and he has extensive experience in counselling, psychotherapy, mentoring, educational roles and business.

Some years ago Darryl had the opportunity to personally experience Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy and was so deeply touched by the power of this approach, that he went on to complete the Hakomi Professional Training Program through the International Hakomi Institute (USA). He has also completed the Advanced Supervision Training Program and other workshops with international trainers in specialist areas of the Hakomi Method.

As a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Darryl has a deep commitment to providing a very safe and supportive space for his clients. He has the rare ability to fully "be with" people, allowing them to gently unfold and work through issues at their own unique pace. He believes it is possible for everyone to let go of past difficulties and choose new ways of being, that allow for happiness and fulfillment.

In addition to being a graduate of the Hakomi Professional Training Program as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Darryl holds a Bachelor of Education and is a Certified Postural Integration Therapist. He has also been the Chair of the Hakomi Australia Association and was a tutor on the 2019/2020  Hakomi Training Program in Perth, Western Australia.

Darryl's Professional Background:

This extensive background has provided Darryl with an awareness and understanding of the issues and difficulties that people can encounter in their lives on a daily basis. He is acutely aware of the difficulty of acknowledging something is not working and the courage and support needed to make real change.

Darryl has also been committed to his own personal journey and growth over many years. Through his wide range of life experiences, he has been called to look at his own process more closely and to reflect more broadly on how we all navigate our lives searching for happiness, love, meaning and joy.

Darryl has always been curious about life’s journey and has explored a number of spiritual paths and philosophies. For many years he has been aware of the power of meditation, mindfulness and reflective practices and how they can help us be more present and positive in our daily activities and relationships.

Darryl was also active in the early Men’s Movement in the 1990’s and co-convenor of a men’s group that met in South Fremantle for nearly 10 years.
